No-Sew Fabric Projects!

This morning I got to "craft" with some good friends from church! We brought out fabrics, hot glue guns, scissors, etc. and got to work! With their help, I was able to make some pretty fun stuff!

Thanks to tutorials on Pinterest, we reupholstered a yard sale find- a bench I got for $3. It looked like it went with a kitchen dining room set, but had a loose screw, so I snagged it for cheap. It already a great black frame and legs, but the top was "wood" looking with lots of scuffs. I kind of embraced the distressed look until a friend told me what a transformation it could undergo if I added some cushion and fabric to the top.  So of course, I went to good 'ol Hobby Lobby to search for the items I needed.

I bought three 1"x 4"x 4" foam cushions (HB also sells foam cushion in a roll, but it is much more expensive) and some cheap quilt batting. The first thing I did was spray adhesive to the top of the bench.  Then I laid the foam cushions side by side on the bench. My friend told me to use the adhesive so the cushions wouldn't slide around when you sit on it (very smart thinking!).  Next, I laid the fabric right side down on the table with the batting on top of that. I flipped the bench over upside down to lay on the batting and fabric. Then, folding the fabric on the edge to give it the "hemmed" look, I pull it snug and stapled it with JB's staple gun.

Once all the sides were stapled tight, I folded the corners and stapled them down.

Overall, I think it turned out well! And the best part is, the whole project cost me around $15!

We also found an unbelievable youtube video on how to turn a t-shirt into a drape vest! I didn't believe it would work until I tried it..  And it did!! The XL t-shirt was $3.50 from Walmart and there was no sewing required! Watch the video and give it a try! :) Here's how mine turned out (pardon the rough pics please!).
